Women and Technology. Introduction.

Facing the technology world, issues of gender, equality and justice, among others, are again on the platform. Women know that the design of the cyberspace enviroment in the twenty-firt Century will not only be crucial to our quality of life but will also be fundamental to the distribution of wealth and power.

If we agree that the electronic medium is nowadays the way we make sense of the world, women must be complete members of the computer culture.

This issue of "Razón y Palabra", is about the research on technology problems, from a gender perspective. The investigations range from domestic to cyber technology. This electronic magazine shows the challenges women face daily, from their domestic space to their academic and professional life.

It is important to point out that women from first world countries, who deal with NIT, analyze the way technology affects them, while most women from third world nations don't realize its importance. This magazine's publication will hopefully encourage women from the third world region to research on NIT from a gender point of view.

Lastly, I would like to emphasize that this issue has been the work of many dedicated women who build tomorrow's future. It has been the product of team work, a feminist idea, which establishes that knowledge is built together and not individually.

I would like to thank every author for their interest in being part of this magazine. Without them, this publication wouldn't have been possible.

Thank you very much for your cooperation,

Martha Burkle.
